An Update from PTO President, Amy Maddux

Congratulations, we are a few days shy of surviving the first month of the second semester!  This is my monthly letter updating you on what has been going on with the PTO.

First, our members have been working hard behind the scenes.  Elsewhere in this newsletter you will see the amazing work our PTO volunteers have done on the teachers’ lounge, and an exciting announcement about our outdoor classroom.  Please don’t miss reading about these, because they are major endeavors that will support our most important asset (our teachers) and enhance our students’ learning experiences.  And come to the PTO general meeting on January 31 in the community room to learn more about what the PTO is doing. It’s early this time, at 5:30pm, so we should be finished by the time your kids are done at math/science night.

But by far the biggest PTO event on the horizon is the upcoming auction on February 8:  Anchors Up for FBMS! The auction is our largest fundraiser of the year. The auction committee has been working super hard to make it an amazingly fun night.  Funds raised at past auctions have been critical in supporting the many, many offerings at FBMS. We expect this year’s auction to be the best one yet.

FBMS’s motto is “Excellence in Academics, Athletics, and the Arts.”  As Ms. Honore likes to say, every child finds his or her genius somewhere, and FBMS is proud to offer not only a quality academic experience, but also many opportunities for students to “explore their genius” whether it be academically, athletically, or artistically.  For this reason, the goal of this year’s auction is to raise funds for EACH of these areas. We have identified multiple potential projects, both big and small, that we hope to fund with auction proceeds. In addition, we will have opportunities to bid on directly funding smaller items in each of these areas.

If you haven’t gotten your ticket yet, stop reading and go do it now!!  We also still have tables available (it’s fun to get together with friends to buy one), sponsorships available, and there are a few more days left to donate auction items, donate to gift baskets, or host a social.  You can even buy a ticket to sponsor a teacher’s attendance at the auction, because no one deserves a night out more than they do! Links to just about anything you want to do can be found on the PTO website at https://fbmspto.org/spring-fundraiser/.

Anchors up - we can’t wait to see everyone there!
